Estimada EASL (Asociación Europea para el estudio del hígado) miembros y colegas:
La Asociación Europea para el Estudio del Hígado en conjunto con la Alianza Mundial Contra la Hepatitis (un grupo global para grupos de pacientes con hepatitis) solicita ayuda para apoyar la Resolución de la OMS sobre la Hepatitis Viral en su 62nda Asamblea Mundial Anual de la Salud del 18 al 27 de Mayo de 2009.
Como es de su conocimiento, la hepatitis viral estará en la agenda de la próxima reunión de la Asamblea y los delegados nacionales discutirán la Resolución de la OMS para el conocimiento, prevención, tratamientos y apoyo de las hepatitis virales así como también crear el día mundial de esta enfermedad a través de la OMS.

Por ser una organización líder a nivel mundial en la salud hepática en Europa consideramos que EASL debe juntar esfuerzos con la comunidad de pacientes con hepatitis para solicitar una resolución de la OMS sobre la Hepatitis viral para asegurar que países de todo el mundo utilicen las medidas necesarias para enfrentar esta enfermedad. Abordar el tema de la hepatitis viral en la agenda de la OMS también fortalece la ayuda política para la EASL.
Por este medio, le recomendamos escribirle a su Ministro de Salud para invitarlo a apoyar la resolución de la OMS con el tema de la salud viral. La Alianza Mundial Contra la Hepatitis ha preparado un proyecto de carta para que sea adaptado con este propósito.

Dear EASL members and colleagues,
EASL has recently been approached by the World Hepatitis Alliance, a global coalition of hepatitis patient groups, which is asking for our help to ensure that the WHO will support a Resolution on Viral Hepatitis at its 62nd Annual World Health Assembly on 18-27 May 2009.
As you may know, viral hepatitis will be on the agenda of the upcoming Assembly meeting and national delegates are expected to discuss a WHO Resolution to improve viral hepatitis awareness, prevention, treatment and support as well as the creation of a WHO Viral Hepatitis Day.

As the leading professional organisation in the area of liver disease in Europe, we believe that EASL should join efforts with the liver patient community in calling for a WHO Resolution on Viral Hepatitis in order to ensure that countries from around the world introduce appropriate measures to tackle this disease. Putting viral hepatitis on the agenda of WHO could also strengthen EASL’s political advocacy in the EU. For example, the WHO Resolution could be leveraged by EASL to encourage the EU to increase funding for viral hepatitis research as well as to ensure that appropriate policies are put in place to tackle this disease at a European level.
In this respect, We would encourage you to write to your Health Ministers asking them to support a WHO Resolution on viral hepatitis. The World Hepatitis Alliance has prepared a draft letter which can be adapted for this purpose. The letter and other information regarding the resolution are available at:
